Find your voice - drama classes

$320.00

In a world where so much communication now happens through screens, Find Your Voice gives children a space to step forward, have fun, be seen, be heard and discover the confidence to express themselves.

This dynamic 8-week program brings together drama, storytelling, creative writing, improvisation, public speaking, performance and on-camera skills in a fun, supportive environment where children are encouraged to explore, experiment and simply have a go.

And while we’ll be learning plenty along the way, the most important thing is that the children have fun and look forward to coming each week.

What will we actually do?

Each week, we’ll move through a mix of short, engaging exercises, drama games and storytelling sequences designed to keep children interested, involved and having lots of fun.

As their confidence grows, they’ll slowly work towards short performances in a way that feels natural and exciting. One week they might:

• Pretend to read the news or become a roving reporter

• Prepare a one-minute speech about their favourite animal or something they love

• Explore a short play, with each child taking on a different role

• Create characters and stories together

• Try improvisation games and think on their feet or make up a funny skit together

• Experiment with auditions and performance techniques

• Explore filming, lighting and performing on camera

No two weeks need to feel exactly the same. The program will also have the flexibility to respond to the personalities, interests and confidence levels of the children in each group.

Some children may arrive bursting to perform. Others may take a little longer to feel comfortable speaking in front of the group. Both are absolutely welcome.

There is no pressure to be the loudest person in the room, and this class is not just for children who want to become actors.

It’s for the naturally confident child who loves to perform or the child who we can encourage to find their inner confidence. The imaginative child with stories bursting to come out.

The quieter child who would benefit from finding the courage to speak up.

The child who loves making people laugh.

The child who freezes when asked to present something in class.

The child who has wonderful ideas but sometimes struggles to express them.

Or simply the child who wants to try something new, creative and fun.

More Than Just Drama

Throughout the term, children will have opportunities to:

• Build confidence speaking and performing in front of others

• Explore characters, scripts and storytelling

• Develop their own creative ideas and writing

• Learn improvisation and performance techniques

• Practise public speaking in a relaxed, supportive environment

• Explore audition and on-camera skills

• Strengthen communication, self-expression and teamwork

• Learn to listen, collaborate and support one another

• Take creative risks without fear of getting things “wrong”

The heart of Find Your Voice is about creating an exciting, encouraging environment where children can build confidence together, discover new ways to communicate and genuinely look forward to coming back each week.

Meet Your Teacher - Ali Mutch

Students will be guided by Ali Mutch, founder of The Art Hive, who brings more than 30 years of professional experience across television, live presenting, modelling, media, performance and photography.

Ali has spent decades working in front of cameras, on live television and with live audiences as well as running her own production company travelling the world making documentaries for foxtel and Qantas. Her career has taken her across Australia and internationally, and includes more than 30 years as a live television presenter.

Along the way, Ali has gained real-world experience in auditions, castings, live presenting, public speaking, improvisation, working to camera, interviewing, performance and communicating under pressure — skills she is excited to share with the next generation in a way that is fun, practical, encouraging and age-appropriate.

But Ali’s goal is not to turn every child into an actor or presenter.

It is to help each child discover what they are capable of when they feel confident enough to step forward, trust their ideas and know that their voice matters.

A Special Bonus During the Term

As a professional photographer, Ali will also offer each student the opportunity to have a professional headshot taken during the term.

This will be a fun introduction to working in front of the camera, as well as a special keepsake from their Find Your Voice experience.
